Andreu Simon and Yuri Yoshizumi win the KAI 70k

Currently being heldMount Fuji100 Mt. FUJI 100 In the "KAI70k" trail running race, which covers a distance of 69.4km and has a cumulative elevation gain of 3,493m,Andreu Simon Andreu Simon Aymerich(Spain),Yuri Yoshizumi Yuri yoshizumi(Japan) won the men's and women's championships respectively.
The KAI70k race will start and finish at Fuji Hokuroku Park/Mt. Fuji Meisui Stadium (Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture) at midnight on Friday, April 26th. The time limit is 21 hours.
In the men's race, Andreu SimonGoji Nagata Goshi Osada(Japan),Lee Shinjin Xingjing LiThe race started with the three runners from China in the lead. After falling behind at one point, Andreu Simon took the lead as the course entered the technical mountain section in the latter half of the course. He continued to widen the gap over the runners behind him, finishing at Mt. Fuji's Mingsui Stadium in 7 hours, 7 minutes and 34 seconds. A fierce battle for second place continued until the very end, with Lee Xinjin winning, and Nagata coming in third.
The first half of the women's raceStephanie Hou Stephanie Marie Howe(USA) took the lead, followed by local resident Yuri Yoshizumi. As they entered the mountain section from Lake Yamanaka Kirara (K2, 25.3km), Yoshizumi took the lead and continued to widen her lead. Yoshizumi won in 8 hours, 7 minutes, and 44 seconds.Emi Iwai Emi Iwai (Japan) followed with a time of 8 hours 26 minutes 14 seconds, and in third place wasHonoka Akiyama Honoka Akiyama (Japan) was 8 hours, 35 minutes and 32 seconds.
Men's winnerAndreu SimonHe started trail running after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and his doctor encouraged him to find something he could devote himself to. "It was a fun experience running around Mount Fuji at night with other runners. Next, I would like to come to my beloved Japan to run 100 miles."
Men's 2nd placeGoji Nagata"Andreu picked up the pace right from Lake Yamanaka Kirara, so I tried to keep up with him, but I just wasn't strong enough. It was a tense race and a good experience," he said.
Women's winnerYuri YoshizumiIt has been six years since he moved to Fujiyoshida in search of a better environment for practicing trail running. Reflecting on the race, he said, "Even on trails that I'm familiar with, I discovered something new when I ran at night, and it was an extraordinary experience. The cheers of encouragement I received along the course really gave me strength."
The final deadline for "FUJI100mi," which is being held in parallel with "KAI70K," will be 4:21 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th.
